Tactless, thy name be Bravo.

OKAY. So I've been DYING to share this with you since it happened last week but as much as I love the blog it's definitely NOT been a priority of late. Which MAY be the problem, actually....

Last Friday I had a soccer game, as I do now every Friday 'till the end of the summer. I LOVE soccer. And, relatively speaking, I'm good. I mean, I'm no Beckham by any means, but TWO weeks ago I was easily one of if not the best on the field. (Changes week to week - depends on how ON the game I am...)

Well this past week I started and played the first half like CRAP. I was HORRID. It was awful. It's not fun when you play like a bum. Regardless of the score if I personally am playing like a reject then I FEEL like a reject and I don't want to play. It's embarassing. I'm better than a reject-player so I should play better than a reject-player. Does that sound stuck up?

Second half, I was AWESOME. I was SO much better. I was on my game, I didn't let anyone through, I knocked someone over (always a perk, and ALWAYS by 'accident' as in my PURPOSE was not to knock the gal over but to get the ball).... I was better. It was great.

So, AFTER the game there was all this hubbub going on with the family because Bravo, my darling dearest brother, is moving out of his house 1.1km from my house, back in with our parents. And Friday night was a moving-stuff-out night. SO after the game we head over to help and grab some stuff he's getting rid of that's perfectly wonderful and really wanted to come live at my house (like some fantastic end-tables for beside my couch - yay!!)

Somewhere in the moving-stuff-out event Bravo and I got chatting and I was giving him the run-down of the game and how awesome I'm playing and how much I love soccer and WHAT A DIFFERENCE RUNNING has made in my game - 'cause let me tell ya' - OY!! WHAT a difference!! hahaha INCREDIBLE. I LOVE it. I'm the oldest I've ever been while being a player and I have the best stamina I've ever had while on the field.

So with THIS news, that my hours and hours and hours of vigorous training and running and just wowzers-that's-a-lot-of-exercise has actually had an EFFECT somewhere Bravo says "well that's good, at least, that even though your size is staying the same you're seeing some benefits from all that exercise!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

EVEN THOUGH I'm just as FAT as when I STARTED it's good to know I can PLAY better!!

Ohmigosh I almost died. I reviewed the conversation with Mr. Man later and laughed - he tried desperately to put a positive spin on it for me and then finally relented - there really is NOT another way to take that, is there? TOO TOO TOO funny!!!

SO, Bravo. I've taken that as a challenge. I WILL get smaller, gosh darn it!! You just may not NOTICE 'cause you see me too darned much! ;) hahaha

Consequentially MONDAY I went for a good run outside, 6.68km - I ran a whole new route, kinda' spur of the moment - I got to the fork in the road and I HAD planned to go right to a point and turn around and come back, but I last-second decided to go LEFT and do a loop instead - it was great!!

TUESDAY I went for a leisurely 5km on Optimus Prime.

TODAY I did Yogilates while Mr. Man earned 30+ Wii Fit credits - it was kinda' fun to workout 'together' - he used that side of the room and I used that side [pointing].

I FINALLY weighed myself - it's been ages. Ha. And, actually, that information is on the WiiFit. ALL I know is it's up 4.6lbs from LAST time which was like, 73 days ago. SOOOOOOOOooooo... I have NO idea how I've been doing 'cause I haven't been monitoring my weight or my size or whatever. LOOKS like I've gone a little backwards, so let's fix that, shall we?? Prove Bravo wrong... muahaha!!

Monday, Monday

So it's Monday. The weekend was a write-off for exercise, as it often is, but I DID make an effort to NOT eat like the pig that I can sometimes be known to be. I was never in danger of being thought of as one of those girls on a date who doesn't eat. I could out-eat most of the boys. Ever heard of Fuddruckers pound challenge? Piece of cake. ;) Well, actually, 1 pound burger, bun, large chili fries (I hate chili, by the way), a fountain drink, and wowzers that's not a small sundae. I totally earned that t-shirt, though, and yes, I most certainly AM man enough!

Mr. Man, I don't think I mentioned, graduated with his BSc in Compuer Science this past spring (HOORAY!) and pretty quickly got a job which rocks my socks, BUT because of the nature of the company and what he does his hours are a little bit all over the map. A couple weeks ago it was 7am-3pm, last week 10am-6pm, and this week we're at 11:30am-7:30am. Anyway, so it's difficult to get the swing of things routine with his highness dropping in and out whenever BUT, TODAY, with the darlin' not having to be at work 'till almost noon we had a good morning. :) There was enough time to sleep AND hang out before he had to get ready for work, which is OH so nice!! So with THAT said:

TODAY:
Ran WITHOUT my BOB stroller first thing this morning, because Mr. Man was home!! Started the running a wee bit closer to home than I usually do, ran the ENTIRE path, there AND back, no breaks. Took about 25 minutes. I wanted to die. I've decided that the path THERE is mostly slightly uphill, which means coming BACK is easier, but by the time I get to coming back I'm OH so dead friggin tired from running uphill all that way.... And apparently, as awesome as my stroller is I can run an eensy bit further without pushing it along. Who knew?? And obviously, when I wasn't running, I was walking either TO the path, or on the way home. Walked about 25 minutes - out for 50. (I definately did something faster today because I went the exact same route I always do and shaved about 10 minutes off my time)

Yikes - Four Days

So I kinda' dropped off for a few days - Little Miss we think MUST be teething, which of course means I'm not getting any sleep AND it was a busy weekend anyway so regular exercise habits were completely thrown out the window. It was kind of sad. Wii Fit reprimanded me today, so no one else has to :P

Great weekend work-wise, though, in case you were all wondering. And today was on its way back to normal. Little Miss is still sleeping a bit funny, so like, NOT sleeping as much as she should, but Mr. Man and I seem to be working it out okay.

TODAY
Went for a run on the path. It was muddy today - lots of rain last night! But that's okay, just makes it fun to hop over puddles and push the stroller through and splash up my legs.... Yup, that's FUN.... My shoes were stark-white 'till I ran through the mud last week. OH well. Anyway, did THERE the whole path, and BACK...probably 3/4 of the path. I forgot to look at my watch, so can't report on that. Walked whatever I didn't run, and was out a little under an hour.
9 minutes yogilates (Little Miss woke up...didn't get it all done, obviously).

Body Mass Index Bunk

BMI has got to be one of the stupidest things - I don't know WHO dreamed it up, though I'm sure I could find out fairly easily - but OHMIGOSH what was he (I guess it could have been a she....though it seems difficult to believe a woman could be that out to lunch)ON?!

So BMI is supposed to be an indication of your...fat status? What would you call that, anyway? There are four categories: underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese, and your assignment into a category basically defines your level of health.

RIDICULOUS RIDICULOUS RIDICULOUS!! According to BMI most, probably all (the successful ones, anyway) body builders are obese. Football players are off the scale. World-class gymnasts are often classed unhealthily underweight. And on and on and on.....

Now, of course, I'm listing some seriously elite athlete types here. But the whole BMI sucks thing is actually true for a HUGE number of us regular types!! I, for example, have rather large legs, even underneath my femoral fat ;). My calves are hard as rock but I can't do up a pair of hooker boots without busting the zipper to save my soul. My BMI is less than two points from obese. What about a skinny person? It can work both ways - know any skinny skinny girls we all just hate 'cause they can eat whatever they want and still look killer in skinny-leg jeans? Have you ever seen them in shorts? Skinny skinny girls with serious cankles?? BMI may put them in the underweight or normal category, but if you were to actually look at the percentages of their lean body mass versus fat mass they'd be overweight.

How do you fix BMI? Somehow there needs to be a way to account for body composition. There's not with BMI as it stands. That's that.

Now, I'M recording my BMI for a bunch of reasons. One, it's Wii Fit's main measure. Two, I'm interested for my own sake to see just HOW thin I'd have to be to get myself into the "normal" category. Three, hoping that anyone who's stuck with it as a measure can see my regular-joe case of it being garbage and look for something better (ask your doctor for a body composition test - let me know if you want a list of what's out there!). AND there's a bunch of other reasons why I record it, but that's all I feel like inundating you with for today.

Sorry I haven't bothered to back up my claims with any scholarly anything - I'm feeling lazy at the moment. I can pull out the books, if you'd like verification, though - just leave a comment and let me know!!!

TODAY
Walked Girlie to day camp, walked to the path and I oh-so-can run the whole path and almost all the way back without stopping to talk to old people! (I wasn't being antisocial - there was no one on the trail this morning!) Soooo...walked for about 35 minutes and ran for 25.

Muddy Paths and Old Men

I had SUCH a great day today. This week my friend is dropping her daughter off at my house WAY too early so I can walk her to day camp down the street and around the corner well after my friend is already off to work. Today was our first day. Girlie arrived about 15 minutes earlier than I expected, bombed me out of bed, but from there it was a great day. We (Little Miss and I) walked Girlie to Day camp for 9:00 and then we walked (I walked...Little Miss rode in her uber awesome B.O.B. stroller - EVERYONE should have one)to this awesome trail we know of and then I ran the trail there and back and then walked home. From there the day was just awesome. Got lots done, Little Miss took a nice long nap, erranding....GOOD day! hahaha

Anyway, and I've run this trail before, but never all the way to the end, and never EVER to the end and then started back. I'm thinking, though, that I made it so ridiculously far today because I kept bumping into chatty elderly exercisers out for their morning constitutionals. How FUN to stop and chat with the elderly and active!! I got comments on my super-duper stroller, my GORGEOUS wee baby, talked about the insane amount of mud on the path today, working for the local factory near where I live pre-retirement....So I got to talk to lots of people AND I ran further than ever today! I wonder if I can run that far pushing a stroller if I don't meet up with any chatty people so I can catch my breath on occasion...probably not....

TODAY
Walked approx 30 minutes
Ran (probably closer to a jog) approx 30 minutes
Chatted LOTS
