I wanna be Batman when I grow up.

(image from: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/rosenwald-md/post/who-is-the-route-29-batman-this-guy/2012/03/28/gIQA8nPjgS_blog.html)
True statement.

Seriously!

Okay, no, you're right. I don't want to be Bruce Wayne, forever psychotically scarred from childhood trauma, raised by my butler, and with nothing to do with my vast fortunes (though I'll take the vast fortunes!) except pretend I'm a superhero and fighting equally-psychotic villains throughout the rough-and-tumble of Gotham City.

I have already admitted I wouldn't be against being unbelievably wealthy (so sue me. And really, can you REALLY say you wouldn't LOVE to take a book out of Scrooge McDuck's book and BE ABLE to swim in your money-pool? Come on!)  But, aside from my wish to someday own a house...at LEAST a wee little bit larger than the wee little bitty shoe-box of a war-home we currently live in (which I love), ...I REALLY want to be Batman.

Or at least, the so-called "Route 29 Batman."

You have GOT to read this article if you haven't already.  My heart sings for this fantastic man and the fabulously silly and ridiculously important work that he is doing.

It makes me wonder, what CAN I do, what AM I doing, and what WILL I do in the future?  In all honestly, I really hope to be at least a fraction as amazing as this and so many other unsung heroes out there, and to make some sort of change for the better for someone.  Isn't that kind of the whole point?

Yes, I really do want to be Batman.  Well, woman, I guess.

Hmmm...

So. It's been...forever. sigh I did start a post a while ago about this awesome workout the Jedi dragged me into...but I never finished it. hahaha Feels the the current story of my life... ;)

Anyway, as I've been on hiatus I've been sort of contemplating my blog in my arguably narcissistic world here (I stick my tongue out at you, Heather!)and wondered where it should take me. I started the thing initially to guilt myself back into my regular exercise-filled pre-mommyhood life - posting your daily I-did-or-didn't-exercise online for goodness only knows WHO to look at was enough incentive to keep me moving. I had all sorts of people I never imagined commenting to me in person about what they'd read about my latest workouts - YIKES! People READ me?! I mean with my whopping 14 followers and regular zero to one comments I'm STILL shocked to know people read me!

But that's good. I mean, the past couple of weeks with Christmas and vacation time I will DEFINITELY admit that exercising has gone by the wayside - I got lots of running in when we were at my parents because of the plethora of adult eyes and hands to watch and take care of the Little Miss while I pound it out on the treadmill, but being home this week without our regular school-time, work-time, normal-time routine it just hasn't happened. And you know what, I'm okay with that. I'll be back on the ball in a week or two when we adjust to the new semester's schedule. We're good. I'm finally back to the point where I recognize my NEED to exercise, and how much better I actually feel physically and mentally when I'm moving.

So, mission accomplished. Huzzah, and thank-you blogging world.

ALSO, I don't know if you remember my dream of fitting a Gap size 8. I honestly didn't think it was possible for me. I remember being in Eddie Bauer in middle school and practically leaping through the ceiling with joy when I did up a pair of size 10 jeans. GAP 8...there's no way!! Especially after having a baby. My body's just built too big - I mean have you SEEN these legs? SOLID, HUGE, ROCK (...oh, except those squishy parts...right...) Well, in the summer I was shopping with my mom and I figured, gosh, you know what? I've been working pretty dang hard. I think it's time to try on an 8 and see what happens. We weren't in the Gap. EVERYTHING FIT. The 10s were too big! TOO BIG!

I didn't try a GAP 8 until Boxing Day. Seriously almost 6 months later. I almost died in the changeroom when I pulled up the jeans and they a) fit and b)looked GOOD! Then I tried on the 10...the 8 looked BETTER! So I am OFFICIALLY and for the first time, like, EVER, in the single digits at the Gap. HELLO world!! No muffin top or anything! Well...maybe NOW 'cause I'm still on holiday... ;)

(See? I told you I'd been thinking for a long time about what to write about....)

So yeah. The blog has served it's purpose. For me, at least. It's original purpose has currently been SURPASSED - I never in a million years thought I'd lose enough 'baby' weight to be smaller than when I got pregnant.

But I've missed blogging. And you know, sometimes it just IS a great outlet! Though, as I've ended up not being very anonymous I find I have to edit a lot of what I would like to say, which is frustrating as all get out at the time.

So here's what I'm thinking, for now. Maybe we can test it out as the new improved Confessions of 2010? BUT, I'd LIKE to kind of change up the general 'subject' of the blog, which I kind of did unofficially a while ago ANYway, from all exercise-based to...whatever the heck I want! BUT I still think I should at least let you know what activities I'm up to and if I stumble across something cool I'll for sure keep posting that stuff. I dunno. I'm a work in progress - my blog is too! ;)

Here's to a great 2010. Mine's already shaping up pretty well:
- a light semester with only 2 courses + 1 independent study (on eating disorders! I'm so excited!)
- GRADUATION in the spring
- awesome progress with our latest networking venture
- summer trip to DC with friends for a scrapbooking convention
- Little Miss is THIS CLOSE to being fully and totally potty trained
- tickets to Stage West for my Mr. Man and I including BABYSITTING for the Little Miss! (Thanks, Mom and Dad!)

Looking forward to it. 2010? Bring. It. On.

Weightloss Wars

HELLO! I know, I know - you all missed me like CRAZY, eh?? I can tell by all the comments left on my last post BEGGING me to hurry my return - what good is there on the internet to read if I'm not around??? ;)

I DO definitely have a post in me all about our little vacation BUT today have a different topic I MUST address, so the vaycay post will have to come later. SORRY if you've been sitting around for the past week twiddling your thumbs waiting for it, as I know some of you have been. (Wow, really? Go GET A LIFE and GET OFF YOUR COMPUTER!! hahaha)

RIGHT before I left for this little vacation I got an invite in Facebook from a friend of mine to join a group she started called "Weightloss Wars" - you can't look it up 'cause it's a secret group - muahaha! (Seriously, not everyone loves splashing info about their weight-not-so-loss all over the internet like I do. I've discovered I'm a bit of an anomaly that way; who knew?) BASICALLY, join the group and 'war' to see who can lose the largest amount of weight. But it's "The Biggest Loser" type rules where it's the percentage of weight loss. WHICH, as you know my thoughts on WEIGHT is just as bunk as the next thing BUT.....it's a COMPETITION!! Members of the group are competing against each other and the winner gets a manicure on everyone else!!

SO by clicking "confirm" on the group invitation I signed my little self up to either win a manicure (not likely) OR be out $10ish (depending on how many people join the group! hahaha PLEASE join!!)

The contest STARTS today - as soon as Mr. Man gets back from a small errand he's running I need him to re-hook up the Wii (we took it on vacation JUST IN CASE we were stuck inside with nothing to do on the three rainy days that were in the forecast - no one predicted sunny skies with a mix of TORNADOES! WHAT?!) so I can take my stats (they will be posted, don't you worry!) - and runs 'till September 23rd. That's right. I have to make it through Little Miss and my birthdays in this war.

Mr. Man and I are in the middle of some scheduling/planning for our last couple of weeks before school starts again, so we're looking at what/when I can fit in runs and/or yogilates, how LONG I can plan to run for, and I REALLY REALLY want to revamp what I eat. Like, REALLY.

I know I've posted about my problems with food before (here, here, and here) but I'm feeling, today, motivated to do something about it. I don't even like getting my nails done, by the way, but I DO NOT want to have to pay $10..... hahaha

While I was away ShopGirl blogged about her anniversary of being chocolate-free which....honestly I was kinda' MEH about before. Chocolate isn't all that big a deal for me. BUT some of my FAVOURITE things have chocolate in them/are chocolate i.e. chocolate chip cookies, my mom's fudge (oh it is TO DIE for!).... When ShopGirl announced she was giving up chocolate I thought - hey, I should do that!! But then thought about Christmas and how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mom's fudge. It's not like I eat it all the time or anything - Christmas is only once a year, right? I don't WANT to give up Mom's fudge!

BUT after reading her post.....huh. I'm considering it. I'm considering a lot of 'drastic' things, actually. I did mention before that with food I DO need something concrete, difficult, and insane - if it's not a challenge I just lose interest and start stuffing my face with whatever. I'm currently toying with cutting out chocolate, or ALL "sugar" (I KNOW there are natural sugars in fruits, etc. - I'm talking about gummy bears, caramel popcorn, ice cream.....oooooohhhhhh....iiiiiiiiiice creeeeeeeeeam........) JUST ice cream.....

I have to make up my mind, fast, 'cause the contest STARTS today.... in fact, this post was to announce what I'm doing! hahaha BUT Mr. Man's back now and writing about it I can't decide what to do and for how long - I think I'll go chat it out and see if we can come up with something. Then I'll weigh-in. You MIGHT get two posts tonight, you lucky lucky people.

Too bad it's a boring rambler.... hahaha ;) What else is new?

Oy, Oy, Oy.

Huh. I wonder if it's 'cause I'm not in school right now so my life isn't completely taken over by my whole kin-major-ness. But OY!! Where has the time GONE?!?!

Okay, let me catch you up:

5-factor, though awesome, is just NOT conducive to...well, whatever it is that I'm trying to accomplish right now. I think with Little Miss around, running the business, and trying to have some SUMMER in my summer it's just TOO structured. I think that was my main complaint when I tried it last time after she was born. BeFORE we had Little Miss, I was preaching 5-factor everywhere - it was SO EASY to fit it in - seriously, 25 minutes 5 times a week - PIECE of cake!! BUT I could do it ANY TIME before. NOW I only have my Little-Miss-Free time to exercise, aaaaaaaaand there's a LOT of time with Little Miss.

SO, we're back to running. It's relatively quick, it's simple, I LOVE Optimus Prime (I found the VOLUME buttons on the console yesterday so I can actually HEAR "The Office" instead of having to read the subtitles while I watch! WOOHOO!), and it's FLEXIBLE. I can take my shoes with me anywhere, and if I miss a day, I miss a day.

I DO want to try to supplement it with Yogilates - I LOVE yogilates. All the benefits of yoga with some of the core strength of Pilates. I even worked up a sweat tonight, which doesn't always happen, so apparently I was working hard! :)

Okay, got it?? Running + Yogilates = NEW ME. We hope. I haven't successfully yet kept BOTH going for any length of time (drove me nuts tonight doing the yoga poses - I WOULD have been so much further along if I'd not STOPPED part way through the semester - gah!!) but the regime is very flexible. Hopefully I can do one or the other every day, with Sundays off, of course, but if I miss a day, NOT a problem!!

I'm getting tired and embarrassed continually posting that-failed-let's-try-this each week soooooooo let's do this!!

Happy Mother's Day?

So before we get down to 'business' I HAVE to tell you about my Mother's Day. hahaha

This is my second Mother's Day as a mom. Last year I got a new ceiling fan for my dining room (if you'd have seen the old one you'd be as ecstatic as I was TOO! Little Miss has EXCELLENT taste in ceiling fans!) This year....

Yesterday Mr. Man, Little Miss and I piled into the car for a trip to the Home Depot to get a shelf to put up in our bedroom - we have a tiny house and are falling ever-so-much-more in love with shelves because we suddenly go from NO space to hey-there's-a-spot-to-put-this.... Anyway, we're in the car, about 3pm, and Mr. Man asks "So when IS Mother's Day this year??" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I figured that was that for this year. TOO funny. He was shocked and horrified to discover that he only had 9 hours until Mother's Day.

THEN later, we put Little Miss to bed and were all ready to snuggle down and watch a movie and Mr. Man's pager went off for work. He looks at it, GROANS, and says NOOOOOOO........ He ended up working for a couple of hours (= our movie-watching time) and that was that. We were almost asleep AFTER work when he phone rang ('bout 11:30/12ish - occasionally I hate his job) and he was up working again 'till 1am or so.

SO instead of breakfast in bed this morning to make up for the lack of card, gift or anything Mother's-Day-Ish I was woken by a screaming Little Miss at 6am who I had to tend to as Mr. Man had had the late night working.

I DID get a yummy dinner of BBQ pork chops, and lazed around in bed most of the afternoon so it wasn't a TOTAL bust, but still pretty funny. I thought, anyway. It's just a date on the calendar, though - I know they love me regardless. (It's my BIRTHDAY that really counts... hahaha)

BUT all that aside I wanted to get BACK on track here - I haven't been posting about my exercise or eating or goal-fulfillment (or incredible lack thereof) aaaaaaaand I don't know how I look to the outsider but lemme tell ya' I FEEL like a Heffalump. (Little Miss and I watched "Pooh's Heffalump Movie" today - cute. I'm Mrs. Heffalump. Not-so-cute).

A while back I said I was going to watch the food with my whole belief that I may actually have a PROBLEM and not just a need-for-fuel with food. I did okay for a couple, maybe a few weeks buuuuuut..... ohmigosh, yesterday I made a double-batch of cookies that didn't turn out to be my best batch because I ate too much of the butter/sugar combination before mixing in the other ingredients so the finished product (of which there are WAY WAY WAY WAY too many - what was I THINKING?!?!) is slightly more flour-tasting than it should be. How did I solve that? Rolled the dough in sugar before baking it.

Oy.

See??

And that's not all. Every year for Easter Mom buys Uncle Bravo, Mr. Man, and I each our very own box of 48 Cadbury Cream Eggs - my FAVOURITE. Seriously, I ate them ALL in about a week. Maybe two. Disgusting.

I can't STOP EATING.

And I haven't been running 'regularly' - I've been working so hard on WORK stuff since finals ended I've been finding/making excuses. And while the running may be blasting fat when I can drag my butt away from my desk to do it I have oodles of sags and lumps and bumps to deal with still. Not pretty.

I think part of my problem is the new schedule. Mr. Man's work schedule got changed, too, so we're dealing with all sorts of whoa-what-who's-where-when and it throws me off.

SO here's what I'm HOPING to do, starting tomorrow:

I'd like to re-start the Five-Factor-Fitness workout I used to do BEFORE I got pregnant - I tried to reinstate it immediately after but found it too stringent for life with a newborn. BUT we're going to see if we can buckle down and get this puppy done. I'd like to add three runs/week to the workout if I can - five factor consists of 5 25-minute (intense) exercise sessions/week starting with some high-intensity cardio and then focusing mainly on strength training. Which is all fine-and-dandy but I need to bust FAT soooo need more aerobic training!! Enter running. Which I more-or-less enjoy now anyway, sooo just have to make it all fit in the schedule! But I figure I'm looking at:
Monday: 5-factor+run = 1hr
Tuesday: 5-factor = 25 min
Wednesday: Run = however far/long I go that day ;)
Thursday: 5-factor = 25 min
Friday: 5-factor (plus soccer in the evenings once that starts....SO probably no run)
Saturday: 5-factor + run = 1hr.
Sunday: COMPLETELY OFF

I'm DETERMINED that I can shed this weight. I just have to DO it. SO we'll start with the workout and then work on the food. (There are a LOT of cookies in this house right now - I don't think I'm ready to just throw them out.... *sigh*)

WISH ME LUCK and if you want to JOIN me...leave me a message - it's easier with back-up!!

The Sun is Shining

Little Miss and I went outside this morning and ran around our little smidgen of a backyard - her pants are covered in mud, if you need proof....

It's a GORGEOUS day, and I'm well rested. Today is a better day.

Here, FINALLY are some pictures to prove we were in Ottawa, and moving ;)
My hot vacation-date and I.

Our darling-dearest Ferret-Mama, hostess extraordinaire!

Mr. Man & Little Miss in front of Parliament - we went for typically tourist photos. :)

See? SKATING on the canal - TOO much fun!! I mean, other than the freezing part, doesn't it look like a blast??
Little Miss wasn't overly active, come to think of it....

So I figure it's probalby not that big of a deal NOW because I'm posting them so late, but there it is. I promised, I did it. One thing off the never-ending to-do list.

TODAY I figured I'd better attack this food problem I've decided I have. I just EAT and EAT - it's like I'm compelled to eat by some evil food forces. I don't even know. I just HAVE to eat something. Everything.

I need to do some searching and see if food addiction is a real thing or if I'm just making it up. I mean, I don't eat, I don't think, like some of the morbidly obese people who make it to 'Oprah,' but really, maybe I DO and the difference is the fact that I actually MOVE a bit. A lot.

SO I'm going to try to adhere to a couple of things I used to do back in high school when I was on the wrestling team (surprise!) to make weight for a big competition: I stopped eating 'sugar' except on Saturdays, and stopped eating after 6:30.

I'm a little...hmmmmmm...about this 'cause really the MOST IMPORTANT thing for fat-loss is to make sure calories in are less than calories used - it doesn't MATTER what you eat or when you eat it (even though we go on and on and on and on and ON about what to eat, when to eat, what not to eat - just eat less than you use and you'll lose fat!! PROMISE!) BUT here's why I'm going to try it:

I EAT 'sugar' food in huge huge huge amounts when I eat it. I can eat half a tub of ice cream in a sitting, plus toppings, I pop chocolate chips in my mouth when I walk by them in the kitchen over and over each day - 'sugar' food, i.e. dessert is like, a treat for most people, but I use it as a meal. Even AFTER a meal I'll eat that much. It's gross, actually, the amount I can pack away. SO if I cut it out, except on Saturday 'cause I'm HUMAN and legitimately want it occasionally, I won't eat near as many calories.

CONSIDERATIONS: When you DO this kinda' think and only eat i.e. sugar one day a week you CAN overindulge and your body will hang on to the sugars like no one's business = more fat. I found previously when I did it for an extended period of time, though, that if I tried to eat more than just a 'treat' amount of sugar on Saturday it made me sick to my stomach = less likely to over-eat dessert! HOORAY!

After 6:30 (I may switch this to 7 - let me give it a week, but my school schedule is a bit wacked-out) I eat bad things, and too many of them. I don't need to eat anything after 6:30 if I've had 3+2 meals during the day. It takes a bit of discipline for me for a while to get my belly to recognize it's NOT hungry late at night and I DON'T need uber-buttery popcorn, ice cream, taco-bell.... I don't need it, so why do I EAT it??

I'm going to stop.

I don't think this is too much - I just have to curb my sweet tooth for a few days, and live with the late-night munchies by, gee, going to sleep??

SO - hold me to it. Let's see if I can't get another few inches off this sexy bod of mine and hit Gap 8, eh?? EH?!

OHmigosh!

Okay, okay. So I only have a few minutes today (since when has that ever kept me from writing novel-length posts? GEEZE.......) BUT I HAD to jump on and tell you about TODAY'S run.

That's right. I ran today. Voluntarily. Mi didn't even DRAG me to the track today, I did it all by my onesie. I did meet UP with Mi, of course... right after she'd done some seriously intense interval training in her training principles lab - yikes! I'm a little scared for mine on Friday, now.... hahaha

ANYWAY.

NEW BEST TIME: (that's right, folks! I set a new best time on FRIDAY and another AWESOME one today! I'm faster than FLASH....is he fast?? I'm not all up on the Flash thing - I probably should have picked a different character. But I digress.)

27:58

BOO ya!!

Remind me, if you think of it, to take my wii fit stats tomorrow morning and see if there's any progress with ShopGirl's Challenge..... At least I'm progressing on a couple of the SMART goals! :D

Bring it on, Fates! I'm still here!

So I've decided that when I tempt the fates with one of my posts i.e. my last one, they ALL descend upon me and just have at it! HOLY COW!! WHAT a second week of the semester!! Mr. Man asked me this past week if life is ever going to let up - we could really use a break. Like a real break. Not like Christmas break, which we'd been counting on, with illness and broken-down-vehicles and no time to rest, but a REAL break.

Anyway, if I'd found the time I was desperately searching for during the week to write here I'd have entertained you all with the latest tales of our woes, BUT it's another new week, we're STILL HERE (HA! Take THAT oh-conspiring-ones! That's right, you're going to have to BRING IT ON to beat US!), amazingly, still together, still in love, still enamoured with Little Miss, still in business, still FIGHTING!!

I find myself repeating over and over Blue Belle's mantra: 'I can do hard things!'

SO, HERE, finally are my SMART goals (SMART: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic, with a Time limit) for the semester as completed for my 'Training Principles' class:

Cardiorespiratory Endurance
By the end of the semester I aim to be able to run 5K in 26 minutes. Current time 30-31 minutes. Would also like to train to be able to run 10K in one session. (This is prep for 5K race in Mississauga in May)
Will run more regularly (3-4 times per week) adjusting speed and incline of treadmill accordingly, to increase.

Muscular Strength
By the end of the semester I aim to be able to do one one-armed push-up. Currently not able to fully complete any.
Will work on two-armed pushups working toward single armed push-ups 2-3 times per week including holding myself up with one hand in plank position, working towards ability to flex and extend elbow while holding body in plank position. Will also regularly practice yoga and pilates to aid completion of goal.

Muscular Endurance
By the end of the semester I aim to be able to do (at least) 50 push-ups in a row. Currently able to do: 16
As with Muscular Strength goal will work on push-ups and one-armed push ups, and regularly practice yoga and pilates to help.

Flexibility
By the end of the semester I aim to be able to sit and reach the heel of my hands to my toes. Currently able to reach mid-fingers to toes.
Will 3 times a week practice yoga and pilates to encourage increased mobility and flexibility in joints, including pilates and yoga poses that target reaching hands to & past feet.

Body Composition
By the end of the semester I aim to have lost the rest of my pregnancy “fluff”. Will aim to lose 10 pounds but main measure will be pant-size (may not actually lose weight if muscle mass increases); will fit size 8.
Will accomplish this by working on above-listed goals and adjusting diet to reduce fast-food and dessert intake.

Okay, got it? THOSE are the goals. That's what we're working for this semester. Keep checking - I'll be posting about my progress!!

At SOME point last week...I forget when, I WiiFitted myself for:
Weight: 168lbs
BMI: 27...I think just 27. I'd have to double-check and/or do the math and I don't wanna do the math right now. ;)

Back on TRACK

hahaha I'm all about the puns tonight - I just left the best comment on a blog. ;) hahaha Then with the TITLE.... MAN I'm killer! ;)

Okay, okay. So I'm here to report on the run today and share some fun, um, news, I guess.

Today I ran wearing THE SHOES! (Angels: aaaaahhhhhhhh!) It was fantastic. Actually, it felt weird, and probably how it should have been feeling all along! hahaha They're SO comfortable!! I was sad to take them off and put my boots back on. It's like running in SOCKS but without the jarring impact of stocking feet on hard ground.... ShopGirl, if these babies fit you as magically as they fit me, they're AMAZING!!

Now, I didn't run ALL Christmas break due to the cold, okay? And though I'm all better there's still like, the post-cold disgustingness goobering around. I actually choked on it today, but that's another, yes, very gag-inducing story. ;) AND Mi, whose excuse I did NOT get (lazy? what? TEASING, darling!) didn't run over her break EITHER, so when we met up today we were quite the pair! hahaha I'm 'running' SUPER slow to ease back in, she's arguing with me that running at that speed is using up more energy than if we were going faster and using momentum and all whatever blah blah blah (I hate it when we use our Kin smarts against each other...)and all the while we're arguing (obviously running our fastest if I have all that excess air to argue with...and actually sing along to Michael Buble, which I also did....). THEN Mi's knee started bugging her with her tight, unused-over-the-break IT band rubbing uncomfortably, so we stopped so she could stretch. Then we kept running. Then we stopped again 'cause I was whining (I'm SO good at whining) and Mi's knee was bugging her again. Then we walked a lap, ran a lap, walked a lap, ran a lap. We finished running the last two laps, did our 5K. And I'm pretty sure we didn't start the walk-run thing 'till after at least the first 3 were done. SOOOOOoo yeah. We're easing back into it. Give my lungs the week to get used to it again. ;)

And FINALLY, today, I've accepted ShopGirl's Challenge to drop that (silly, bad measure) BMI down. Furthest down by March 31 gets sushi lunch. Except ShopGirl etc. lives in Senior's City and, well, I don't. hahaha I'm fighting for bragging rights and smaller pants! SO, I'll keep you updated on my stats, at least, and at the end of March tell you who the big winner is - ShopGirl, Spart, TooKool, or YOURS TRULY!

TODAY: (the challenge starting point - thank goodness I was sick and put weight on over Christmas! hahaha)
Weight: 171.5lbs (that's up 5.3 since last time I weighed myself - yikes!! No WONDER I feel like a whale!!)
BMI: 27.57

What happened to October Goals?

Soooooooo I've been slacking. I'm happy to be the first to admit it, and sad that I am at a point where I have to say it. I DO think the midterms are a good, not EXCUSE, but REASON for having taken more time for school than for exercise this week ;) (my grades will definitely agree, I promise you), but I've let myself get so burnt out feeling that my non-studying time has been spent doing NON exercise things. But I DID make this WHICH I think is pretty cool. AND is work-related so it wasn't even like I was WASTING time!!

Anyway, I'm watching a video taken earlier today of me emceeing a children's talent show (we're giving the kids the video for Christmas) and feeling like a WHALE. I look GINORMOUS and THEN some poundage!! GAH!! Hopefully I'm the only one who will ever watch this video and think that, but it's discouraging.

At the same time, I had a great...encourager? hahaha today - I put on a pair of dress pants that Mom-O and I bought a good while ago, post-pregnancy, that were kinda' snug at the time but I figured, hey, if I need 'em I have 'em. Anyway, they're almost HUGE on me today, which in light of the fact I feel like a whale must mean I was beyond large when I bought them. But they're HUGE today, which means I'm SMALLER! Which means, IT IS WORTH IT to run 5K periodically!!

One more midterm, on Monday, and then expect to hear about me being totally and completely back on track. And leave me mean and rude comments about being a fat-reared slacker. PLEASE. I need all the help I can get!!

Thanks for "listening" to me tonight - a bit of a pity-party rant, but it is what it is.

Let's get serious

Okay, so I just wanted to address a couple of things.

FIRST off THANKS to everyone for comments both on and off the blog - it really helps with my own motivation. ESPECIALLY people who are setting their own fitness goals - I LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear about them!!

Here's the let's-get-down-to-business part: I hope that you realize that, at least for now, this is a HUGE part of my life - I go to school every day to study the human body and how it works and moves and why things do this and that and the next thing. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE what I do. Granted, cellular physiology can get a bit dry but when you put it in the big picture - HEY COOL! (Did you know you use calcium in your MUSCLES to allow for the use of energy? That's right, it's NOT JUST for your bones!)

For quite literally years now I have been immersed in all things physical/fitness related. I can't get enough.

SO if you're setting your OWN goals and/or plans and think hey-maybe-I'm-NOT-as-up-on-this-stuff-as-my-buddy-Red-because-I'm-a-genius-at-economics (FASCINATING subject, by the way) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE feel free to tap into ME and get some feedback! And no OF COURSE I don't think I'm the be-all-and-end-all of fitness knowledge, obviously. Well, I hope that's obvious. Mi, if you read this post you'll laugh - you KNOW I'm not smart in all things this-related! hahaha BUT hopefully I can help dissuade some of the silliness that a lot of us find so easy to buy into.

TAKE IT SLOW - you don't want to lose weight to fast! Your body likes its weight where it is, even if you're 300lbs! It takes being a weight for about a year for that weight to be your body's new favourite weight SO, SERIOUSLY with weight loss you want to go at the pace of the tortoise. If you take a hare approach to it your body is going to try DESPERATELY to snap itself back to it's favourite weight, wherever you just came from. Don't DO that to yourself - you want the hard work to pay off for good!!

I was asked in the comments on my last post if I'd recommend the Wii Fit - it totally depends on the person. Any training regime is going to depend on the person - do what you love to do! My CONCERN with the Wii Fit is that it's probably not enough for an active person. You have to use it wisely, I'd say, to get a good workout from it. On the OTHER HAND, if you DO weigh 300lbs and live on the couch, the Wii Fit will get your ginormous butt OFF the couch and won't let you push yourself too hard, so it's awesome for that.

My FAVOURITE part about the Wii Fit is the charts and graphs so I have a visual of my progress. Even with my weight yo-yoing back and forth each day, as everyone's does (YES that's normal), I can see a general downwards trend in my weight. It's very encouraging. So, take that as you will - Wii Fit is FUN and for some people, the perfect fit to get started exercising. For me...it's just fun and a good way to track myself.

Okay, longest post ever?? Probably. If you ARE working on your own goals and want some input from a way-too-pushy me, please by all means feel free to drop me a line in the comments or e-mail me: redlovestomove@gmail.com. This stuff is WHAT I DO so I'm ALWAYS happy to help. :)

TODAY:
60 minutes yogilates - interrupted by a phone call, which I would have just let ring BUT I forgot to turn the ringers off after putting Little Miss to bed and so DASHED to the phone the instant I heard it. THEN it was about work so I took a breather for a few minutes while that got sorted out. Was actually like, right at the 30-min mark, so broke things right in half.

Wii Fit measures:
Weight: 175.3lbs
BMI: 28.17

And I realize I'm BEYOND due for photos of the jelly doughnut - I'll get on it, eventually. Kinda' hasn't been priority lately. ;) My legs are hard as rock, though, in case you were wondering. muahahaha!
